Northern Lights

We will pick you up at the designated meeting point and leave the city lights behind.

If the forecast and aurora activity look promising, we will head to one of our basecamps, which are equipped with basic toilet facilities. There, we will light a campfire and enjoy storytelling, snacks, and hot beverages while we wait for the Northern Lights to appear.

We must adapt our travel plans along the way, depending on the local weather conditions and solar activity. If conditions are challenging, it means we will not visit a basecamp. Instead, the tour transforms into a longer bus journey to find the most optimal conditions to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

On such a trip, you can wait inside the bus or stand outside at the places we stop. Even if we have to chase the lights on the move, we will still serve snacks as well as hot and cold drinks. If the weather permits, we will also build a campfire in the wild.

Please note that the Northern Lights are an unpredictable natural phenomenon originating from the sun, meaning clear skies alone cannot guarantee a sighting. Weather in the Arctic regions also changes rapidly. We will, in any case, do our absolute best to give you an unforgettable Arctic experience.

Not included

Tromsø is one of the best places in the world to experience the spectacular northern lights. We do everything we can to find the best locations to see them.

Tour details

• Duration: 5-7 hours (may extend depending on conditions)
• Departure / Meeting point: 7:00 pm from Magic Ice Bar Tromsø
• Drop-off: Your hotel or nearby (max. 15 min away)
• Minimum/Max: 2–8 guests
• Age limit: Minimum 10 years
• Season: September 15 – April 5

There is no toilet on the bus. If we're not at our private camp, there may be a bit of distance to the toilet.

Important to bring

• Sometimes we are going to the Finnish border.
• Clothing: Dress for extreme cold (-30°C possible). We recommend warm layers, boots, gloves, and a hat. We have a limited selection of thermosuits and winterboots, but it needs to be ordered on e-mail. You must also be able to walk yourself.

• Hot drinks and light local snacks included.
• Please inform us of allergies when booking.

Safety

• Terrain may be slippery or uneven. Travel insurance is recommended, as Tromso Travel does not cover accidents.
• Our buses have Euro Class 6 environmental classification.

• At least 24 hours before the tour: Full refund
• Less than 24 hours before the tour: No refund
